WHAT WE DO

J.O.Y. Behind Bars is a nonprofit organization founded in the state of Alabama by retired Educator & Counselor, Eddream Lawrence.

We mentor, tutor, counsel, and offer spiritual support for the parents of incarcerated children.

We also provide spiritual support in local jails for inmates and connect with their families on the outside to ensure stability in our communities, particularly in the areas of education and social services.

Recognizing the enormity of the challenges our society faces, J.O.Y. Behind Bars is dedicated to making a lasting impact through our ministry to inmates and their families through our programs. As a faith-based nonprofit, we believe in the power of prayer and action, and our actions are driven by our organization’s singular focus...community reinvestment through LOVE! We spread a wide net by investing in the next generation - the youth - through our innovative program J.O.Y. in the Community M.A.T.T.E.R.S.
