The opioid addiction and interaction in the criminal justice system have decimated communities all across America. Our team at J.O.Y. Behind Bars is dedicated to making a lasting impact through our one of a kind mentoring program - J.O.Y. in the Community M.A.T.T.E.R.S.
While our efforts are driven by our organization’s singular focus - to help the children who are separated from a parent(s) maintain academic, and emotional balance - we also minister to the incarcerated parent(s), to help reduce family instability due to recidivism.
Connectedness to the community is one of our core strategies. We invest heavily in development of relationships with other faith-based organizations, social services, and educational institutions in the communities we serve in Russell, Macon & Lee Counties in Alabama.
Our desire is to:

-
Reduce recidivism
-
Reduce dropout rates for the children left behind - See article "The Prison Paradox"
-
Support grandparents who are surrogates
-
Help former inmates with reintegration into the community
-
Find healthy ways to rehabilitate families
-
Provide job training referrals
-
Helpfully assist with drug referrals
-
Provide spiritual and emotional counseling
